Getting Involved
There are lots of ways to get involved at CAANS:
- Donating either financially or in the form of necessary supplies
- Following CAANS on social media
- Applying for employment opportunities as they arise
- Volunteering your time in the CAANS office or at events
- Attending or sponsoring one of our events
- Buying tickets to Vagina Monologues for yourself or someone else (You can donate it to CAANS and it will go to someone who can’t afford a ticket).
Friend of Dorothy? Finding Family? Queer as a 3 dollar bill?
“In 1992 when I was coming out, all the books said the local HIV organization will know where to find the gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer or questioning community.” At CAANS, we try to keep in the loop, this is what we know:
- Queer Coffee is held the first Wednesday of the month, starting at 7 p.m. Call us at 403-346-8858 for the location;
- There is a company that is holding dances in the community, find Red Deer for Pride on facebook here;
- There is a LGBT youth group which meets every second Friday from 3:30-5p.m. at the Red Deer Library, in the Mez. You can find them on facebook here;
- Red Deer College’s Pride on Campus is busy this year, you can find them on facebook here;
- We have staff at CAANS who are queer and know what it’s like to come out of the closet; and
- There used to be a trans support group running in town, sadly, it is no longer running.
