Events

CAANS uses events to raise awareness, to educate and to fundraise, with events being held throughout the year.

CAANS welcomes the opportunity for special fundraising/promotional events organized and sponsored by outside individuals/organizations or businesses. Contact us for more information or to look at our third party fundraising agreement.

More information on each event is located below:

Tune-up
This quarterly (spring, summer, fall, winter) event provides access to services including non-urgent medical attention, sexual health services, vaccinations, haircuts, mental health services, hot lunch, and many more to vulnerable and street-involved populations in Red Deer’s downtown core. CAANS hosts this event with the help of our partners from the Red Deer Primary Care Network, Alberta Health Services, Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic, Red Deer College, Marvel College and many other community actors.

Vagina Monologues
Vagina MonologuesThe Vagina Monologues is a play presented with a goal to raise awareness of violence against women and girls on a local and global level. Funds raised from this event will go directly into work to end violence against women and girls. In Central Alberta, 90% of proceeds stay in the community, supporting the health and safety of vulnerable women and 10% of proceeds go towards the VDay’s international spotlight location. More information on the Vagina Monologues and other VDay events can be found at: www.vday.org.  If you are interested in volunteering to be on the cast or behind the scenes, please complete this form.

Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life

Street Memorial
Every year CAANS takes the opportunity to hold a Street Memorial for the community of Red Deer.  The Memorial remembers the street-involved people who have died in the last year.  The last Street Memorial was held in November 2011 where we remembered 21 people.  The program is available here.

Alberta Harm Reduction Conferences
The goal of the Conference is to raise awareness in Alberta about the application of harm reduction principles amongst decision makers and service providers who deal with populations vulnerable to Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS and to build capacities within those vulnerable communities.
